In Case You Were Wondering

Pasted Graphic 1

  1. I have always loved reading and being read to.
  2. Some of my earliest memories involve entering worlds created by other people.
  3. When I found out that this was something that I could do I jumped at the chance.
  4. There was a period in my life where I gave up writing as a fools dream and dedicated myself to “serious things.”
  5. It was the most miserable portion of my life.
  6. It was even worse than the depressive episode during which I attempted suicide.
  7. My sister was living in the Bay Area at the time and heard about a group of people who attempted to write a 50,000 word novel in one month. She thought I should give it a try.
  8. I believe her words were something along the lines of “You were a lot happier when you were writing. Not so much of a jerk.”
  9. My sister and NaNoWriMo saved me from becoming the worst jerk on the planet.
  10. I can never thank her enough.
  11. I am bi-polar and have the paperwork to prove it.
  12. Mania is awesome!
  13. Depression sucks worse than any suck has ever sucked.
  14. I tend to quote The Simpsons without realizing that I am doing it.
  15. This is a little darker than I intended it to be.
  16. This will not surprise anyone who knows me.
  17. I like dark.
  18. I do not have a favorite color, but most of my wardrobe is black or grey.
  19. If you call me “emo” I will punch you right in the face.
  20. If you call me “Elmo” I will kick you in the crotch, then punch you in the face.
  21. Elmo makes me want to stab things.
  22. My favorite authors include, in no particular order, Stephen King, Ray Bradbury, Cherie Priest, Peggy Christie, MontiLee Stormer, Thomas Monteleone, Brian Keene, Dashiell Hammett, Ramond Chandler, Kim Harrison, and Kathy Reichs
  23. The best book I can not recommend (because of how deeply it pulls in the reader) is The Girl Next Door by Jack Ketchum.
  24. I will recommend Emma Who Saved My Life by Wilton Barnhardt knowing full well that half of the people who read it will hate it.
  25. Fuck them.
  26. I probably swear a bit too much.
  27. My musical preferences have been politely described as “eclectic.”
  28. Favorite performers include, again in no particular order, Jonathon Coulton, Bowling for Soup, Clannard, Bond, Enter the Haggis, Wednesday 13, and Florence and the Machine.
  29. I have a number of distinguishing marks to help with the identification of my remains. Most of them are scars. I only know where a couple of them came from.
  30. The most prominent is the area on my right shin where I gouged out a chunk of flesh closing the garage door.
  31. I had to have three stitches in my right knee from where I hyperextended it playing hide and seek.
  32. I’ve also got a good one from where I wiped out on gravel cutting between paths on Belle Isle on a borrowed bike.
  33. I’m kind of a klutz.
  34. I got my first tattoo at age 39 (almost 40).
  35. It was in celebration of my first paid publication.
  36. It reads “Calliope’s Servant” in Greek.
  37. That was the first. Now I have five.
  38. I have plans for at least five more.
  39. Laura Kondon is an amazing artist. She has done my last four. If I have my way, she will do every other tattoo I ever get.
  40. If called upon to identify my body, my wife will have no problems pointing to the tattoos and saying “yep, that’s him.”
  41. If called upon for a description should I go missing, she will probably forget to mention the tattoos.
  42. Yes, I am married. Why is that so hard for everyone to believe.
  43. We live in a lovely little house in the Metro Detroit area covered with dragons.
  44. Dog person. Definitely a dog person.
  45. The thing I am most proud of is getting up the courage to submit something that I wrote.
  46. My first rejection letter is framed and hanging over my desk.
  47. I don’t particularly like public speaking.
  48. This comes as a surprise to many because I am apparently pretty good at it.
  49. I don’t particularly like people in general. The idea of speaking in front of them makes me nervous.
  50. Once I get started the nerves disappear and my inner bullshit artist kicks in.
  51. I’m actually pretty shy.
  52. This stems from a pretty crappy sense of self worth.
  53. I’m working on it.
  54. Halloween is my favorite holiday.
  55. I decorate my house inside and out in October.
  56. I am proud of the fact that I have return customers, people who make it a point to stop by the house every year.
  57. I was beside myself the year the cops had to come and direct traffic.
  58. I don’t know that I believe in ghosts, but I do think I have been visited by them.
  59. I used to get flashes of what I was certain precognition.
  60. This stopped in my twenties.
  61. I walk a weird path between skepticism and belief.
  62. Casablanca is my favorite film. I have seen it over 100 times, including multiple viewings in movie houses.
  63. I have never really lived on my own.
  64. I’m not sure if this is a failing on my part.
  65. I love to be alone in nature.
  66. However, sometimes isolation frightens me.
  67. Although I probably watch too much television, I rarely watch anything when it is actually on.
  68. This means I rarely see commercials because I fast forward through them.
  69. I’ll probably add more to this, but it has been a while since I started it and I forgot some of the items I wanted to mention.
